XBox 360 3RROD – Code 0102

Today the oldest of two XBox 360’s died. After sitting still for a few months the not-so-stable hardware decided to die on me instead of playing a nice game of GTA IV.

Maybe it was because I never bolted the motherboard back in or didn’t tighten the cover screws. Anyway, a nice ‘red-ring-of-death’ and some diagnostic codes revealed another X-Clamp failure for Microsoft. Ofcourse i’ll attempt to fix this ol’ piece of hardware, but first have a good look at whats underneath the huge heatsinks

Yuck, what a mess! Most of the thermal paste was dried out completely. No wonder the GPU keeps overheating.
